Macaaw can post a short message to one Slack channel when something happens: an agreement is signed or declined, an invoice check needs review or is approved, a task finishes or a scan is saved.
Before you start
- Slack is included in Pro and Business. In a Business workspace, the owner or an admin connects it.
- You need permission in Slack to add an app to the channel.
How to connect Slack
- In Slack, create an incoming webhook for the channel (Slack app settings › Incoming Webhooks › Add New Webhook to Workspace), and copy its address. It starts with
https://hooks.slack.com/services/. - In Macaaw, open Integrations, paste the address under Slack webhook address and choose Connect.
- Under Send a message when, tick the events you want and choose Save.
- Choose Send a test message. The card shows Test message delivered when Slack received it.
How to choose what messages say
- Off (the default), Include names keeps names out: "Agreement completed — everyone has signed."
- On, messages add the agreement name, or the supplier and invoice number: "Invoice from Northgate Building Supplies (INV-88213) approved".
- Each message links to the page in Macaaw. Only people with access to your workspace can open it.
If something goes wrong
- That isn't a Slack incoming webhook address: copy the webhook address from Slack again; a link to the channel does not work.
- Switched off: Slack said the webhook no longer exists three times in a row (it was removed, or the channel was archived). Create a new webhook and choose Change webhook.
- Messages arrive late: when Slack is busy, Macaaw tries again after 1 minute, 5 minutes, 30 minutes and 2 hours.
Frequently asked questions
Does Macaaw send my documents to Slack?
No. Messages say what happened and link back to Macaaw. File names, agreement names and suppliers are only included if you switch on Include names. File contents are never sent.
Can I post to more than one channel?
One channel per workspace. Use Slack's own tools to share messages to other channels.
