About editing PDFs
At launch, Edit PDF lets you add to a page and cover parts of it. You can add text, which is handy for filling in a form that has no fields, adding a date or correcting a heading. You can place images such as a logo, stamp or photo, and draw rectangles, lines, circles and arrows to point things out. White-out places a white box over part of the page, so you can hide an old phone number and type the new one on top. Editing the existing text in a PDF, such as rewriting a sentence where it stands, is not available yet. White-out hides content visually, but the text underneath is still in the file and can be copied; to remove sensitive information for good, use Redact PDF instead. For notes and highlights that others can review and reply to, Annotate PDF is the better choice. If you need to change a lot of text, consider PDF to Word.
Limits: Edit PDF is available on Pro and Business, not on Free; Pro starts with a 14-day free trial. One PDF per task, up to 200 MB on Pro and 500 MB on Business, with up to 2,000 pages.
Privacy: your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection to our UK servers, processed automatically with no person opening it, and deleted within 2 hours, or straight away with Delete now.
How to use the PDF tools: Step-by-step help with every tool, limits and your files.
Edit PDF: frequently asked questions
Can I change the existing text in my PDF?
Not yet. At launch you can add text, images and shapes and use white-out. Editing existing text is planned for a later release.
Is white-out safe for hiding private information?
No. It only covers the content, which is still in the file. Use Redact PDF to remove text for good.
Why is Edit PDF a Pro tool?
It runs on our servers with more processing behind it. Pro includes a 14-day free trial if you want to try it first.
Can I add a signature with Edit PDF?
You can place an image of a signature, but Sign PDF is made for this and runs in your browser on Free.
