Up to 25 MB per file · 1 file at a time on your plan

How it works

  1. Add your PDF

Click Choose file or drag a PDF onto the page. The pages are read on your device.

  2. Choose how to split

Enter page ranges such as 1-3, 4-10, 11 to get one file per range, choose every N pages to cut the file into equal parts, or set a largest file size in MB.

  3. Download the files

Press Split. The new PDFs come together in one ZIP, numbered in order. If you chose to merge the ranges, you get a single PDF instead.

About splitting PDFs

Splitting helps when one file holds several documents, such as a batch of scanned letters, or when a portal limits how many pages or megabytes you can upload. There are three ways to split. By ranges gives you exactly the files you describe: type ranges separated by commas, such as 1-3, 4-10, 11, and you get three PDFs, one for each range. Ranges may overlap if you want a page in more than one file. Tick Merge all ranges into one PDF to get a single file holding those pages in the order you typed them. Every N pages cuts the document into equal parts: every 1 page gives one PDF per page, every 2 pages suits double-sided forms, and so on; the last file holds whatever is left. By file size keeps pages in order and puts as many into each part as fit under the size you set, which suits upload limits such as 10 MB; a single page that is bigger than the limit on its own gets a part of its own, and you are told when that happens. Pages are copied without any change in quality, and links and text stay as they were. If you only want one new file with a few chosen pages, Extract pages is quicker, because it gives a single PDF rather than a ZIP. To remove pages and keep the rest, use Delete pages.

Limits: one PDF per task, up to 25 MB with a free account, 200 MB on Pro and 500 MB on Business. Browser tools have no daily task limit.

Before you sign in, files can be up to 25 MB. A free account raises this to 25 MB.

Privacy: this tool runs entirely in your browser; the file never leaves your device. Nothing is uploaded, so we have nothing to store or delete.

How to use the PDF tools: Step-by-step help with every tool, limits and your files.

Split PDF: frequently asked questions

How do I split a PDF into single pages?

Choose every N pages and set N to 1. You get one PDF for each page, in a ZIP.

How do I write page ranges?

Use a hyphen for a range and commas between parts, for example 1-3, 5, 8-12. Each part becomes its own file.

Does splitting reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied exactly as they are, so nothing is recompressed.

What is the difference between Split and Extract pages?

Split gives you several files in a ZIP. Extract pages gives you a single PDF made of the pages you choose. Split can also do that when you tick Merge all ranges into one PDF.

How do I split a PDF to fit an upload limit?

Choose File size and enter the limit in MB, for example 5. Each part is checked after it is built, so none is larger than the limit unless a single page is already bigger.
